Make This Summer Sweet As A Peach
Sweet, juicy and delicious.
Peaches are a popular summertime fruit; with a local peak seasons
lasting from mid July and to late September. Peaches have a long and
rich history of being used around the world but originated in China. With soft, fuzzy skin, this classic summer
fruit can be found in a range of colors including red, pink, yellow, white or
combination.
Not only do peaches offer incredible flavors, but they are
also a fruit bursting with health benefits, dessert options and canning
capabilities.
Health Benefits: If not for their sweet flavor, try a peach
today for their health benefits! Peaches
are low in calories and contain no saturated fats making them the perfect snack
for losing weight. They are also packed
with minerals, vitamins and antioxidants that promote health.
Peach Desserts: Make this summer sweeter than ever with
delicious dessert recipes using the freshest peaches. The most popular peach dessert is peach pie
or peach cobbler. Whether you follow an
old family recipe or a modern method with a twist, peach pie is the perfect
summer food. What is your favorite peach
dessert?
Canning Peaches: While peaches can be found all year round,
you will find the best peaches in the summer.
Canning fruit is a great way to enjoy the rich and fresh flavors of
summer long after it has gone. In just a
few simple steps, you will have jarred peaches for up to a whole year!
Directions:
The first step is picking the perfect peach with the proper
ripeness. You can then prepare a sugar
solution by heating water and adding sugar until it slowly dissolves. When the solution is ready, leave on the
burner to boil. After washing the
peaches, you can easily remove the peal by dipping them in boiling water for 30
seconds then immediately into cold water to prevent further cooking. The peaches should easily be cut and peeled
from this process. With clean jars and
lids, insert the peaches into the jars and immediately cover with syrup
solution to prevent browning. Pack the
jars leaving an inch of space at the top, wipe the rim clean, remove the
bubbles and place your lids. You can now
enjoy tasty peaches all year round!

Sweet Corn – the Perfect Summer Vegetable
Cooking Techniques:
If you want to wow your taste buds with sweet corn, buy
local and buy fresh. Corn cooked to
perfection starts with corn that is grown to perfection. There are a number of cooking methods but the
best technique for summer is grilling your corn.
The easiest method is simply placing corn with the husk onto
hot coals. This typically takes about 15
minutes to cook and is the easiest method.
The moisture in the husk naturally steams the corn for great
results. You can also wrap the corn in
foil and grill for 15 minutes. Shucking
the corn may take extra time, but the results are worth it. Another popular option is grilling corn on its
own, shucked clean and placed directly over a hot fire. This method only takes about 10 minutes and
gives incredible flavor.
Incorporating Sweet
Corn In Your Meal:
No one can deny the versatile capabilities of sweet
corn. It can easily stand on its own as
a side dish or add dimension to any recipe.
A cookout or barbeque is an excellent place to serve fresh corn on the
cob. It is the perfect side to burgers,
hotdogs and grilled chicken. It also
goes great as an ingredient in southwestern inspired salad, salsa, guacamole
and even pasta dishes.
Come visit Bauman’s Farm Market to see all that we have to
offer. Summer brings a plentiful harvest
of fruits and vegetables – including sweet corn! To learn more about Bauman’s, stop by 1340

Proven Winners Will Make Any Garden Bloom!
No matter where you live, a blooming flower garden is one of
the most beautiful accessories you can have in your yard. Flowers will immediately brighten any home’s
landscape. At Bauman’s Farm Market and
Greenhouse, we know that an amazing garden begins with the right plants. We offer a large selection of annuals and
perennials from Proven Winners to help make your dream garden!
Proven Winners plants are unsurpassed in terms of flowering,
growth habit, disease resistance, and garden performance. At Bauman’s Farm Market, we are proud to
offer a range of flowers. With Spring
weather on the way, take a look at some of the flowers that are sure to make
your garden flourish!
Did you ever wonder why some plants grow every year on their
own and why others need to be planted each spring? The difference is whether the plant is an
annual or a perennial:
Annuals grow for only
one year and need to be replanted each Spring.
The growth cycle starts as a seed, then blooms, produces seeds and dies
when it gets too cold out. However, they
are flowers with gorgeous color that last from Spring until Fall! They are typically the flowers you see in
flourishing gardens, hanging baskets and patio pots. Some popular Proven Winners Annuals that you
can find at Bauman’s are Supertunia (ranging in color from Bermuda Beach and
Double Dark Blue to Vista Fuchsia and White Russian), Agyrathemum Butterfly,
Lantana in a range of colors, Ipomea Illusion, Lobularia Snow Princess,
Euphorbia Diamond Frost, Coleus ColorBlaze in a range of colors and more!
Perennials produce plants
every spring. They will bloom after
winter weather has finished and Spring weather begins. They typically do not need to be replanted
each year but you may want to replace them every five years just in case. They are typically a garden’s backbone
because they are easy to take care of and dependable plants that come in a
range of colors, textures, and forms! Some
popular Proven Winners Perennials that you can find at Bauman’s are Panicum
Cheyenne Sky, Ageratem Artist, Heuchera Dolce in a range of colors, Ipomea
Illusion and more!
To see the entire list of Proven Winner plants we will be
carrying this season, visit us online www.baumansfarmmarket.com
